Bit_Part rated Thousand Year Old Vampire

Bit_Part rated a game 5 years ago
A downloadable game.

Thousand Year Old Vampire was my first outing with a journaling or solo RPG. I found the experience to be truly inspiring and cathartic. In a time where my creativity has been stagnant this game challenged me to not just be imaginative, but surrender my preconceptions and play to find out what happens. I have never had an experience in which I  was the primary author of a story and yet how it unfolded consistently surprised and shocked me.

The memory system is remarkable and the insistence of writing in singular sentences is a wonderful challenge. In fact, the entire rulebook  gamifies the act of telling a story to such a degree that it almost feels as if you are not writing the story at all. However, the final result is uniquely, originally you and that is a beautiful trick.

What I thought I was telling was a story about a Welsh knight living in the middle ages becoming a Vampire. What I ended up with was the tragic romance of a man being haunted for 1,000 years by the first woman he ever loved and his desperation to hold onto that last human memory when they both were happy.   I can not give this game enough praise and have already been recommending it to every storyteller I can.
