Jason M. Carey rated Coming Out Simulator 2014

Jason M. Carey rated a interactive story 9 years ago
A browser interactive story made in HTML5.

I found this game years ago when I was researching how come out to my family. I had been having issues coming out all across the board. My school mates scared me back into the closest. Even in online spaces, other people like me kept putting labels on me and would often talk down my identity until I went into the closet as an identity I didn't identify with at all. I had very few friends outside of school I felt safe around to talk about.

I would credit this game for helping me a bit through that time. Honestly, when I came out to my parents this game came to mind. The tension is real, the waiting is real, the anxiety of your words is real.

I would recommend this for any one who debates about coming out or has had came out. I think it paints a very real picture of what it is like to come out. I personally feel that coming out is often portrayed as all sunshine and rainbows. Yeah, a weight is lifted off of your shoulders, but often a newer heavier weight is replaced in return.

Overall, I think this is a game that all LGBT people should take some time to play so that they can relate or think about their own experiences with coming out.
