A VN abstract in all the worst ways possible that misses what makes stories like it matter. 

I understood what it was going for, from its art, structure, and even UI. A psychedelic non-linear dream-like exploration of trauma and existentialism. However, it failed to make me care. 

It treated itself like it wanted me to read it a million times over, dissecting it scene by scene, yet, never once considered giving a reason for me to do so. There was no spark, no connection, no reason, no real mystery. 

Suffering without substance, expression without meaning, and art without heart. There was effort put into it, but that doesn't earn it the reader's time.

I can't even praise the art or music. The art was fine, and without a good core to wrap itself around, it reminded as such. Inoffensive. I'm apathetic to it. 

The music tried so hard to be crazy or strange it ended up just missing the mark. It never matched the scene, nor induced any feelings of discomfort or mania from it not matching. Like the rest of the game, it was without style or purpose. 

Overall, RXTARDXXXMXRTYR was disappointing. It presents itself as something to sink your teeth in, something to think about, a mystery, but fails to deliver.

However, it does have the bones of something truly great under there. I wouldn't be writing this review if that wasn't true. I think with refinement and experience, Puapka's next work could be something special.
