Marvellyous rated Death and Taxes

A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Game idea is neat but the writing and voice acting is far too pleased with itself, feels really smug and annoying. Gameplay is meh, interrupted regularly with meetings so that the game can constantly tell you the themes and ideas of the game rather than letting you as a player figure them out by just playing the damn game. Could not be bothered to even get past day 7, felt so tired and annoyed by it.

Gameplay itself is also pretty barebones. The game keeps telling you you're making big important decisions but there's no real sense of weight behind them. The game thinks that choosing a person to die should be enough of an ethical quandary that it doesn't bother to try and make you invested in any of them. Sure you might see that killing someone who was solving a problem directly leads to that problem occurring, but why should I care?

And then the game keeps interrupting your work to tell you "Oooh you should feel baaaaad about doing this! You have no choice but to do the work but also feel baaaaad!"

It's a shame, because this could potentially be a really interesting game but it is let down by weak writing, overwrought voice acting, and unengaging gameplay.

(Also minor complaint, but why get me to design my character if you're not even going to let me see myself most of the time?)
