***SPOILER ALERT***
The Last Cosmonaut is a very short, kind of very easy game. You need to collect the four chips strewn around the base. They're not very hidden so you just have to find them on the floor and pick them up. Once outside, the "thing" (an Alien creature) pursues you as you run to the shuttle and leave.
The gameplay is really simple, walk or run around, look at notes and find chips.
The graphics are aesthetically pleasing, though. Lo-fi, black and white - really good! There's a sort of blur over the screen as well, which, while cool at first, made me feel slightly nauseous after a while. Sadly, the blurring made me miss a corridor the first three times I played the game, so I was really bummed out when I found it (and the last chip). Partly my own fault, of course, but anyway... If you don't find the chips, there's not much else to do except keep looking. There are some notes and logs strewn about, offering a little backstory, but other than that, you just have to keep going until you've searched everything.
There's no music as such, instead the game relies on atmospheric sounds. This actually works, and really helped the mood of the game and made me slightly paranoid at first, until I realised I was actually alone (and thus, quite safe) until I got outside.
As for enemies and obstacles: there are one of each. The door out of the base that you need the key card for, and the alien that attacks you. The latter is easy enough to outrun, so there's little challenge there.
I think that this is the developers' first game, and because of that, I won't judge it too harshly. If there's ever an updated version, I'd like a little more to do in the game: add some puzzles to get the chips, or enemies to avoid in certain ways, or more locked doors to get through. Or just a timer (e.g. air running low) to put some pressure on the player. But there's definitely something in the game to enjoy, so I'll definitely try the next game these guys present.
