Hypersphere rated A Dark Forest

Hypersphere rated a Dark Forest 9 days ago
A browser Dark Forest made in HTML5.

Very surprised at how much I enjoyed this game! Completed it over many many hours and was simply addicted the whole time.

This game excelled at first in making me feel that everything I did was pushing my nation towards greater and greater heights, and had me eventually wondering would it ever end. As fun as exponential growth games are, they usually fall victim to these open bounds. But this game flips the script. The bounds of the game don't feel like impossible obstacles, and instead are real game mechanics to be exploited.

The world IS finite, there ARE bounds, they're just bigger than you first imagine. Reach infinity? Restart and do it faster. For most games this would be annoying but you can do it quite easily and enjoyably here. The challenge in my mind became how quick could I complete a run, after beating all the bosses, it became destroying whoever was at the top.

Dominance can be addicting, and this game does it well. The roughest part of the gameplay was the hook. Getting into the game for the first time brings you to a rather desolate and confusing screen with many windows and text popping up. I found myself ignoring everything and just pressing buttons to advance, yet it felt a bit void as I wasn't sure where I was or what I was doing yet. Other than that, such a fun game.
