[v0.5] The presentation was fantastic. The impressively numerous assets and how tightly they were integrated really are a treat. Also helps that the art style is gorgeous and the music was tastefully curated. It all comes together effectively to create a somber mood. The worldbuilding is also done quite well. I feel situated in the pre-digital era setting and have a good sense of all the forces at play.
SPOILERS BELOW!!
The romance is super cute and it's very endearing how much Wayne cares about Gray. (Doesn't hurt that all the characters are conventionally attractive!) But there are certain bits that could be flushed out a bit. The whole time we get the sense that Gray and Wayne are/were really close, had a fallout, but now they're back together. So Gray out of the blue just says hi and...now it's all fine? And with how fast they got back together, you'd think they already had a long history, but somehow they don't really know much about one another? (Wayne's family, Gray's entire past?...) Like are they close, or are they not? Maybe this'll be a big reveal eventually, but as it stands it's quite enigmatic.
Gray as a character seems to have some sort of amnesia. (At least, that's how I read it...) As such, we the reader are given very little detail about who they actually are. That's fine and all, but I think it needs to be addressed more throughout? Like how are they so chill about not remembering things? I guess we do get the random flashbangs with the inner voice and such. But I want to know more, or at least why I can't know more. And just so many unanswered questions about Gray. Like why is he so close to Sara? How does he just have the time/resources to play investigator? Who is he outside of this investigation? Like what does he even want to do in life?
While the worldbuilding does accomplish what it sets out to do, it could be made more effective (imo) with more subtlety. For example, we're constantly being told how creepy the Crawford House is, to a point that it all feels a bit, forced? More showing and/or less telling? Not much to say about the rest, since not much has developed yet.
Nitpicking aside, I did enjoy the read. The uh, romantic peak in Ch.4 was quite delicately handled, which I really appreciate. (satisfied heart something emoji) Excited to see what comes next!
