The start is very rough: The visuals are limited and the written is very basic.

But my main problem:
As a player you are put in a spot where you have to accept your character is not in control of anything. Your earlier suffering at the hands of the bullying trio is put away as unimportant to them and partially your own fault anyway "You are a boy, you could have refused".

This is all fine, if the game gave you the ability to push back as the MC, but you are forced to forgive and forget. This is made worse by the fact you are clearly told early on that you getting into a relationship with your ex-bully was planned by someone else. You get no vindication and your compliance is required and assumed, you are not a player, you are being played.

If you want to play the game, you have to suck it all up and continue anyway.

Does this get better? Yes, but if you dislike being forced to forgive and forget without any remorse or vindication for the plot to progress, the first hour of this game is actually painfull to get through. I have tried 3 seperate times over 2-3 years since this game is so highly regarded, but I cannot get myself through it.
