divadonadance1 rated Where the Two Flowers Meet

A downloadable game for Windows and macOS.

I was shocked by how much I became engaged and fell in love with the way this story was written. This game handles sensitive topics and shows different perspectives that most of us might have thought or wondered about during our darkest spirals of thought. This game presents these thoughts in a visually pleasing form lmao, which makes anyone's first walkthrough a different experience depending on their thought process during the decision-making events. I have to give credit, besides the fact that in all the decision-making scenarios you have to choose only between two options, I need to point out that this game made me sit between ALL of the choices to think about what I wanted or what I thought would be the right choice for literally 5 minutes or more, for one of them I even had to stand up and leave for a bit to gather my rational part of the brain lol (brain is key word about which choice I struggled with besides my main instinct lol)

During my first playthrough, I was unsure about whether I had made the right choices, especially during the first 5 chapters, since the character you interact with the most in the game, as the MC, becomes even more of an unreliable narrator as you progress through the story. The temptation to follow your first instincts in crucial moments in the game, especially in the decision-making parts, was so intense that if I didn't take a moment to think, I would follow my instincts from the get-go. This game is great at making you feel lonely as the story progresses; the events are quite dire, and you can question a lot about the point of keeping the story going and who you are trying to save, yourself or someone else, or are you surviving for a bigger purpose. But what can a patient, a person with a lost arm and eye, with all odds against him, do? So, as the MC, by the end of my playthrough, I felt my desperation kicking in, to keep surviving, to rely and believe in the only character that was powerful enough to change the narrative of the story so far and our MC's fate, even if as a player I dreadfully awaited for that character to just turn around and say "Just kidding, you can't do shit, you dead bro lol". I really didn't trust them at all, even if I kept making choices to see what he would do afterwards if I proved I'm reliable.

On my first playthrough, I went through the S route and got the ending where my MC gains the name Seven. I was happy with my ending, since despite all of my doubts throughout the story, I was able as the MC to stand by my irl and in game morals as close as I could during that route, and was able to give a chance for redemption for the main characters. After this ending, I finished the other ones. I'm glad we got more perspective on the story and the main themes of it, on the characters. None of the endings, I would say, are perfect endings where everyone is happy, and nothing is wrong at all, but it is on theme with the topics this story tackles, so for me, I liked all of the endings since all of them complete all of the aspects of this story.

I hope my review can make someone try this game out. Please read the trigger warnings, since I don't think this story is for everyone. The characters are well written, and besides how antagonistic she can be, I loved even Frida. The art was beautiful and clean, the dialogue was engaging, and I loved how MC's interactions were with different characters; it made them feel more real to me. I saw afterwards that this game was made by the same creator who made the game For Amerta, so if anyone heard about this game, you will have an idea about the themes this creator likes to tackle, and damn, I have to say you are awesome at writing suspenseful stories. You have improved greatly from each of your project. Will look forward to seeing more of your work and will play the other games! Tried to keep the review vague enough and as spoiler-free while writing about my experience. I hope you enjoy reading it <3
