Beglitched, a turn-based RPG that I could only describe as the lovechild between Candy Crush, Minesweeper and Mystery Dungeon...
And it rocks!
I'm not entirely sure where to start with this one, because there's so much to like, but let me just say that the core gameplay is complex and a ton of fun. It takes a while to wrap your head around it, but once you do, it's a blast. The game explains it better than I ever could.
And that's without even mentioning the numerous gimmicks that each stage introduce that vary up the gameplay nicely and keep it from getting stale, over the 10+ hours you'll probably be playing it. Not all of these gimmicks are created equally, but most of them are really fun.
Seriously, the game did not stop surprising me. It has a light puzzle-element as well, in which you have to figure out how to get past some roadblocks with just your intuition and some experimentation to guide you. These puzzles are clever and complement the core gameplay nicely.
The presentation is also really sweet: clean pixelart, funky colors and a banging OST for both the traversal of the levels and the battles with the enemies. The earlier boss theme especially is a highlight for how hard it goes.
I should also mention the story, which doesn't take the foreground and is mostly told through short text documents, but it builds a character that you really start getting a feel for over the span of the game. It's subtle, but definitely not bad.
In short, because I realize this review is really long: Beglitched is a turn-based RPG that seamlessly mixes some very unlikely friends and never stopped surprising me with its creativity. Definitely worth playing, even if the premise doesn't immediately sound interesting to you!
