001618 is an... erotic horror visual novel? (and a horror for SEO)

The art is good, and while the characters are the clear draw, the way background art is used to make the setting of a supermarket so surreal deserves equal praise.

There is no sound. At all. Which would be less jarring if the prose didn't keep mentioning sounds or even music playing. 

Note that the game is originally in Chinese (some lines still were!), but at least in English, the writing does not really successfully pull off either the horror, erotic, or erotic horror particularly well. It's stilted and impersonal - even in the most fucked up moments I couldn't muster much of an emotional response, because neither could the protagonist, who is such a blank slate he's practically nothing. The story also misses its supposed theme of commodification through the lens of sex, because those parts barely feel connected to whatever was being explored on the surface level prior to their occurrence in each 'route'. 

In summary, I don't really recommend 001618 unless you're REALLY eager for bad things happening in the time span of half an hour but don't feel like caring about the person(debatable) they happen to.
