This is a really great premise and hopefully the start to something you do end up continuing. I think your concept is good and the twist to this part is one that hits just right. Your backgrounds are, like, astounding and super tactile; I felt like I could touch basically anything and everything in them and they were stylistically very, very good. I also think you have a great way around character designs and everyone you showed off here sticks out to me.
If I had any points of critique, it would be that the staging was slightly awkward in terms of how sprites move and, to a certain extent, scene transitions. I don't think it's a serious flaw honestly and something I bring up as someone who likely needs to work on it too. I also might have liked to have spent more time in the toy store and the aquarium; things did move maybe a touch too quickly, though in a way it's also because I was intrigued enough by what you were doing that I could've and would've easily read more. If you do end up continuing this, I'm sure both of these things are areas you'll figure out.
That all said, very nice all around. I enjoyed it.
