PokemonFanatic102 rated Slaughter

A browser game made in HTML5.

An incredibly impressive game considering the hardware. Framerate is smooth and consistent, Items such as the weapons, item pickups, and UI look very nice, and the sound design is also well done.

Levels are actually decently complex, with a certain degree of verticality to them, as well as complex level environments and basic surface textures. Gameplay consists of exploring levels with the goal of killing all of the monsters in a given arena, which is easier said than done as you might imagine. All of this I found very impressive considering Wolfenstein wouldn't come out until after the release of the SNES, and that game had much simpler level design than what's showcased in SLAUGHTER.

Sadly, the game isn't really for me. The levels, while undeniably impressive, are pretty difficult to navigate due to the very busy environments combined with the NES's low resolution. While its simple enough to figure out what you're looking at, and the environments are well detailed for what this game is, I still find that spending more than a few minutes playing can end up straining my eyes a bit from having to focus so much on deciphering the pseudo-3D visuals.

I had fun, though! Definitely was worth giving a try!
