ThiaQuiche rated The Aquatic Adventure of the Last Human

ThiaQuiche rated a game 5 years ago
A downloadable game for Windows.

This game is wonderful on a variety of levels. First and foremost, the graphics are beautiful. The choices of colours fit each area very nicely, and the art style is pleasing to look at. It's usually pretty easy to tell the foreground from the background.

That said, my biggest gripe is also related to the visuals. As lovely as the game's environments are, it can be hard to keep track of your little submarine, especially in boss battles like The Tranquil. This doesn't make the game unplayable for me by any means, but it can be very annoying when I lose track of my sub and only figure out where it is when a massive tentacle one-shots it.

In spite of that annoying issue, the rest of the game is fabulous so far. (I'm only as far as The Tranquil) The upgrades are interesting, both fairly sensible for a submarine and yet novel enough that getting them is a delight. It's a clever touch that the minimap is replaced with a Warning: Lamp Advised message to thwart players planning to enter areas early by intending to navigate by the map. There's a very interesting story unfolding through the holographic communicators, ruined buildings, and flashing news boards that I'm excited to keep exploring, and a definite sense that while this water world is still Earth, it is no longer the domain of humankind. Overall, I'd say it's definitely worth the buy.
