Jonaya Riley rated GIRL FRAME

A downloadable game.

I've been obsessed with this game for a few months now and recently started work on an actual play of the system. It makes a number of really clever decisions regarding things like roll results, player agency, a wargame-level aspect for the GM, and the use of a GM playbook that make it a really interesting space to play around in.

I also appreciate how unflinching this game is with regards to how it approaches the horror of the setting. It doesn't pull punches, and makes it very clear what it's about from the very beginning.

It's also mechanically a very smooth system to run - enough rules to give you some tools to structure things, but also very open-ended where it needs to be. It feels like creating a collaborative season of a show like Evangelion.

Highly recommend this both from a play standpoint and from the standpoint of "this is interesting design." Isabelle is a thoughtful and talented game designer, and I'm excited to see what else she'll create both for this game and for future projects!
