Spectres of the Cold is an inspiration in that I don't believe it's worth money, yet it asks you to pay all the same. Seriously, Spectres of the Cold has forced me to re-evaluate my expectations for quality in my own games. It has done this through being very short, possessing no save option, no pause option (!), and little in the way of any menus or ability to remap controls at all.
Still, Spectres manages to conjure an intriguing world, "plot" (I'd compare the story in Spectres to a poem over a short-story), and main character. The mazes and stealth are fun, and the option to temporarily destroy an enemy keeps things from being too hard. I will say I spent far more time than I'd like fighting with the limited camera, as everything from walls to trees can get in the way.
I wouldn't pay money directly for this game. However, having gotten Spectres as part of a much larger bundle, I don't regret my time with it.
