Although I definitely missed out on the context of the mythologic references, I did truly enjoy this one. The ending being what it is I feel is important. I like that it admits not everyone will see something that clear as day about themselves and admit the truth. I respect it a lot that it did that. I admit my main enjoyment comes from how the ending frames the rest of the story in context, but it is all good I assure you.
