For a Game Jam, this was really something cute and fun! It had everything, from a handful of stages, to even a funny boss fight.
The visuals were amazing, especially for a jam game, fitting the NES retro style very well. The only thing I think would make it look more authentic is more creative use of colors. The Environments look very nice, tho I think the evil world variant could've used more colors than grey and lighter grey. Presentation as a whole was SUPER strong.
Music was also great. Nice and catchy, and actually some really impressive use of adaptive music. Swapping between the worlds felt very seamless and the music only further complimented that. The two versions were great to hear. Castle theme was prob my fav.
The level design was good and used the mechanic pretty well. While simple, its effective for the most part, but there wasn't really much of a reason NOT to be in the darker dream world. It offers more points, coins, and isn't road blocked by anything. Some small hiccups such as getting caught on sides of the floor were kinda annoying. Also, feels like the game lacks some Coyote time, making some of the more precise platforming a bit less lenient. Could just be a design decision, but was something I noticed. Then again, this is all for a Game Jam in a certain amount of time, so honestly, the critiques are p mute.
Lucy is really cute! Really great job fellas.
