Urcicus is a mix of passion and love for the game itself and its players.
The first thing that literally catches your eye is the colorful worlds and its patterns. Before that, its your playable character with a funny looking and cute sprite. She's just destined to walk and jump around, because she HAS to flaunt her stuff. Even all the enemies designed were wacky and interesting, there's so much personality put into a pixel game (eat your heart out, Mario!)
I don't remember the last time I played a platformer game before this, but I do remember playing the first stage of "Super Mario Bros" GB years ago and hating it. I was worried initally I needed to get all the bells, but I didn't and even if I died in the process, I still had it and that was great. Allowing us to change characters with different skills was definitely a relief. My favorite has to be the snake, making platforming more of a breeze.
Still, exploring all the characters and their skills is great. Each one is unique, and I really wanted to know how to make good use of them (even if, by the end, I played them all the same as I would with Veve. She's the true star, surely fated to happen). It also felt like the moment I unlocked these characters happen for the exact stages I played and needed them, but I'm sure they work for any (or most) stages.
This game also helped me experience that frustration where I don't feel like undownloading or giving up on the game because I promise you, flying pancake, that I will beat you, and you don't scare me. The carnival world in which I first meet this flying pancake also has to be my favorite, visually. But the haunted house, its gimmick, and mirrors is definitely a great contender for first place.
I also enjoyed running into bugs during its first versions, and I will miss all those wall-breaking ones that have been patched (There's just something en-deer-ing about the unexpected). Seeing the updated Jesdeer sprite is definitely a lovely cherry on top, along with the character descriptions especially on the game page. But in-game, it's definitely the 'finish' animations that find me aww-ing and laughing most.
This is just the start, but there's so much to explore of the game's world and characters. I just know this series will be a fun and loveable one. Looking forward to seeing more of them!
