Pillow rated MiSide: Zero (Alpha)

Pillow rated a game 48 days ago
A downloadable game for Windows.

From what I played, it's quite ambitious for a fan game. Visually it looks indistinguishable from the actual MiSide. However, few things give it away being that some visual errors and awkward animations. Zero picking up the knife, Mita clipping through the chair when you both finish your meal. There's this annoying camera tilt thing that disoriented me that sometimes occur when you move. And by default, I found the camera sensitivity too high.

But probably the biggest concern I have was with the writing/dialogue, it feels so unnecessarily long and most of it I found generic. For both Mita and Zero, the only dialogue I really enjoyed was Mita's salt addiction. It really drags on. I would have preferred a more "show don't tell" conveying characteristics of the characters; for example, repeatedly Mita tells Zero how kind he is however he hasn't done anything really substantial to help her that Mita couldn't have done herself. With a "show don't tell" storytelling philosophy, let's say Mita has this issue that she can't solve, Zero who has knowledge of the outside world is able to assist her, and her coming to the conclusion of him being kind based on his actions. Though, that would probably require more animation work.

Also, If I remember correctly, weren't the Mitas able to access the internet through videos via their TVs in the original game? So it feels like a plotpoint that Kind Mita can't do that...

Overall, I'm cautiously optimistic.
