So impressive not only for a debut novel but just in general. Dark and nuanced. I love the way that the intimacy and sensuality of the violence inflicted to the characters is part of the horror. The characters are multifaceted and sympathetic but also deplorable. There is sexual violence explicitly but also allegories for sexual violence and implication of sexual violence, none of which feels like its in poor taste, which in and of itself is extremely impressive since it seems like very few authors handle the topic with the tact it requires. And its even more impressive that none of it feels in poor taste when regarding the prevalence of sexual violence within the novel and the way power dynamics come into play. Overall just a really cool book.
