This feels like No-skin but dungeon crawler. That might be enough said honestly. So let's talk more about the demo specifically. I've seen this in my feed for awhile and all I saw was some worm, which didn't interest me at all, eventually I downloaded as apart of a "5 random horror games", and immediately I knew it was from the creators of No skin. I don't know if it was the art style, or the similar game mechanics, or the familiar characters that yelled No-Skin; but whatever it yelled it yelled loud enough that I stayed and played for like an hour.
The title screen art style is kind of cool but it's the cut scenes that stand out the most in this game. The general art you see as you walk through the game in my opinion is worse then No skin. Not only is the palette simpler now with pretty much the same graphics as before but the creatures that are shown in the demo are boring to look at and are either pretty basic or you can't really tell what you're looking at (in a bad way). I'm not really and art guy when comes to games so this doesn't put me down but it is definitely a bad thing when compared to the way No skin looked and depicted things.
Also before I continue I know to some degree it's unfair to constantly compare this game to another when it's not a sequel to it or related as I know. But that's the thing I'm pretty sure they are related because of the reoccurring characters but I haven't pieced together how yet.
The gameplay is the same when it come to the battle system as No-Skin as far as I can remember the biggest change is you control a character with the arrow keys this time exploring a dungeon. I have to say my biggest petpeave so far is the inability to guard. You much be moonlit to guard, and in some cases a single hit will kill you no matter your health. There is a chance a room will already be moonlit when you enter (or they might be fixed Idk) and/or there is an item that you can use in combat to induce moonlight. This is garbage. I know there are other ways to kill these enemies that can instance kill other then guarding because I did it but that leaves and option that is second or third in your combat menu that your rarely ever use, it's just in the way most of the time. It make sense to put it there in a normal game what attack and defend are your 2 main choice in combat when in this game it isn't. It's Attack, Bag, Options, defend isn't even in the equations 90% of the time. Def should rework this going forward or like just move defend in general, like make a different ui for you game that doesn't follow the basic general use rpg combat ui layout. I would be interested to see what you come up with.
Now to talk about the characters I'm going to try and wrap this up a little bit because of how long this is getting. There are atleast 3 characters that stand out to mean from No-Skin (honestly all of them are probably from No-Skin). The skinless one himself, The longneck horse, the priests, the flying knives, and Mary. The first game took place in a house but like a dimension of it's own later own. This game seems to take place in a dungeon or just underground in general and your only purpose I can tell so far is to go down.
70 of 100 rating (for this version of the demo because as I'm typing this you released another smh)
This is a great demo, I'm sad about the visual down grade but I'm excited about the dungeon crawler part.
Great job and can't wait to see more.
