The first thing that stood out to me about this game was its perspective. I haven't seen too many isometric horror games lately and it also seemed like it had a form of smooth turning that I was interested in experiencing. That is where I messed up.
I have to be honest, did this game have a story. In its defense it's been 2 days since I've played this demo so let me try to recap before I start complaining. Our car broke down in front of a "random" mansion, upon entering thinks are a bit eerie with most of the place locked down tight. As you explore you find notes and strange phantom like scenes that (now I'm about to get into the weeds) are I think supposed to be your memories or something. I think I made that sound better then it feels when you are playing the game. I do like that it isn't always in your face but most of the time you don't really know what you are doing or should I say why you are doing it.
I like to say something about the visuals as well but there isn't much to say here. Which isn't a bad thing, this game has a blue and white color scheme and pixelated like art style. If you like this art style, then it's great if you don't then it isn't. What this game would benefit from would be perspective changes even if it's just during like talking scenes or maybe when a new enemy or idea appears or something like that. Maybe change the entire screen to a first-person perspective when interacting with people or with your phantom memories or maybe throwing some art on screen during certain key moments. I'm suggesting these things because the game get a bit visual stale after a while (again isn't entirely a bad thing) and having an event or 2 would definitely benefit this game.
The gameplay, part of the reason why I wanted to try this game out. Being about to control iso cam with your mouse was actually new to me, I mean I better or games have done it but none that I remember. It took a bit of sensitivity fumbling but eventually it felt ok I guess. One of those "the controls are your enemy" type games as well but to a lesser degree. The is a gun and a flashlight (from what I remember), where you could either shoot or burn enemies; or should I say you could either shoot or burn 2 enemies. You do quite a lot of shooting both close range enemies and long ranged one, with a bit of a learning curving because while you're aiming your character moves slower so you have to be careful. But I was disappointed that they introduced a "burn corpses" mechanic that you didn't get to use.
Summary, if you are someone that would like an isometric pixel style this will probably draw you in. While playing there is enough here to keep you going but not really to keep you interested. "Is the demo worth playing then?" I'd say not exactly. It's not a straight up no, if you have the time definitely play it and give the devs feedback, it took me like (however long the video is, I forgot I played this a few days ago) to finish so you decide. Just go into this know that what you see is pretty much what you get (not a bad thing). If you what that video on the game store that is what you play. This demo needs a little more to make people curious/wanting to play the full game.
45 of 100 rating (for demo)
to be above a 30 means I wouldn't mind playing again if I had to.
Great job and I wonder what next.
