This game is like a 66 out of 100 for me (see what I did there lol). It is posted as a playtest but out of the games you get on itch.io it is a full playthrough. The whole idea is to keep a hole feed but along the way things distract you, redirect you, scare you, and straight up kill you sometimes. I ended up getting kind of sucked into the game and I was a bit upset with how it ended because of how immersive I was throughout.
The story was present but wasn't really a focus for me. Which could be good or bad depending on how the dev wanted it to be perceived. There seems to be a religious cult tied to this hole in the ground and the need someone to constantly keep it satisfied by throwing meat down the abyss. During your stay though, the hole location becomes compromised, and the above ground entrance begins to get attacked. This was a nice little addition, having other things go on that are separate from you makes the game feel more alive. Then the story leaves questions, not in a bad, a good way actually. Like whom was the watcher, what did that light panel do, I flipped the levers I still don't know what they did, were there multiple endings?
For the gameplay there wasn't really much to it. You walked down a long hall carrying a bucket filled with meat then you dump it in a hole and repeat. The gameplay came from the changes in the branching rooms or the events that changed the layout some. This kept the game interesting and there was never a time where I was bored or didn't haven't anything to do. Actually, it was the opposite this game feels like you always have like 2 or 3 things you could be doing at any one time, which leads to you never really getting bored.
The atmosphere is a bit of a miss for me but not completely. This game isn't scary at all feel wise, maybe that was the intention, but I don't know. This game feels more like a simulator game that jump scares you every once in a while. Maybe closer to a plain adventure game because of how often the elements change. But that first scare got me extremely good because of this reason, check the first min of my video to see my reaction lmao.
Sorry stupid long review, this is the end now I promise. My expectations going into this game was a half-baked mess with a few ideas in it so they could see what would stick. What I got was a full fletch indie horror game on itch.io that kept my attention all the way through and also got a girly scream out of me; not to mention leaving me with a few questions left unanswered in a good way.
If you read all of this just go download this and let the devs know what you think.
Oh and devs that survey is way too long, I did not finish it.
