Revolting.
Invasive Species has a deplorable main character - it's a sadism that goes deeper than his social standing, but justified by it. There's a lot of moments where he positions himself above the system for 'criticising' it, while his own views are either skewed versions of the faults he points out, or downright worse. While we only get glimpses into the world's esoteric caste system, it's clear that he is a byproduct of the privileges given to him and that he exists within the hypocrisy of pretending he's not.
The writing itself is a fluid barrage of subjective observations, which works very well. (Typos abound, however.) The writing also manages to balance itself between revulsion and a fascination/eroticism of the same disgusting things.
The art is also well made, it too having this eroticism of revulsion. I'd say the sprites are certainly drawn to be attractive, but there's... aspects here which sully them (which I'm sure makes them even more attractive to some players.) There's not a lot of CGs, but the few here elevate their scenes. (Those teeth are very... well, I know what you are.)
Sound design is used sparingly but quite well. However, the audio levels are so wack I didn't realize there was music playing for a while.
A shortish story that knows what it's doing and refuses to hold itself back in order to achieve it, while somehow also managing to be quite subtle. Really good. Really upsetting. Euhm, if you like stinky this will be a 100/10 stars experience?
