Built on a foundation of Flash point-and-click games, Tangle Tower represents a wonderful show of the learning done by its developers without losing the spark of what made that era of gaming fun.
We are the preposterously named Detective Grimoire who, along with his assistant, comes to the titular Tangle Tower to investigate the mysterious death of a young woman who lived there. There are two extensive families' worth of suspects, all of whom have their own quirks and secrets to dig into, and much like the classic point-and-clicks, you'll want to spend time poring over the gorgeous backgrounds looking for objects to grab and present to them for more information.
That said, it at times feels a little overwritten, with characters liable to spout on and on. It also struggles a bit with being both very flaggy, blocking progression off until you hit certain milestones, and yet alos somewhat coy with how you progress. It also has a bit of a rushed ending that sets up a sequel but fails to adequately and fully resolve certain things in the narrative, which is a bit of a shame.
Still, it's a charming adventure game, and I had plenty of fun playing it!
