So, playing Cruise Quest was an experience and I will share some
thoughts about it. First the gameplay, with minor quirks managed to
remake the atmosphere of the classics that defined the point&click
adventure genre, games like Monkey Island and Leisure Suit Larry come to
mind. Since I am firstly a gamer I went back in time once and played
them. Now I can say that Cruise Quest, with a simple non-intrusive
interface and smooth interractions managed to take things to the next
level. The minigames are also, well polished and relaxing and managed to
add extra spice to the gaming experience. The only minor flaw I saw
were the walking animation that I say blended in perfectly in the
setting. In a cruise people are supposed to walk slow and relaxed not
run around, like there is an impending bomb threat;) But this could have
easily solved with a double click on the direction arrows that would
have cut the animation and made a quick transition to the next scene.
Also the save system, slows things a bit. So I will give the gameplay a
(9/10).
The graphics, for me were a treat. The interiors and the
cruise guests are really well placed they manage to make the place look
alive and create the perfect atmosphere like a small private world where
the action of the game takes place. Yes some inconsistences are visible
but they can be easily overlooked. Note that this is not a game made by
a big company using the latest version of Unreal Engine, it's the labor
of love of one man who manged to serve us a visual treat. For this
reason I will rate the graphics (10/10).
The Story. Well, this is a
rare case where a well written adventure games scenario blends in with
erotica. We have four playable characters, each with his own view and
perspective of the cruise, that are also pair with a difficulty level
starting from the first, easy, medium, hard, veteran. As the stories
intersect many times, it is fun to rewatch events shared by all
characters from a different point of view. For the players who are
familiar with Retsy's games the many cameos of characters from other
games will also be a delight. The side-stories were also well placed and
offer an atmosphere of absurd humor that is subtely present in Retsy's
games and is one of their unique traits. I've really enjoyed the scope
scenes and the Shrok&Donk show, the muppets cameo and other
surprises. Yes their shows are bad, but they are supposed to be that
way;) Also not wanting to give any major spoilers here, I will only say
that people who were waiting for another CCTV game, got exactly that in
the Henry scenario, in an inovative and distilled form. So I will rate
the story (10/10).
The erotic content seems small at first, but
that's just because it seems a bit shadowed by the adventure part. And
the gallery is also a bit misleading because it refers only to the main
events and interractions. However there are numerous mini-events and
content that can only be discovered by playing the game. For some it may
seem like a lot of work and a bit grindy, but I would say the erotica
is perfectly placed and blended into the main action. For the reason
that certain events can only be seen by using the save system and there
was room for much more, I will rate the erotic content (9/10).
