Even if there's RNG elements in the game, as some people are complaining about it, I haven't got to the point where I encountered a string of bad luck after bad luck. Hell, I usually avoid games with heavy reliance on RNG elements, but this changes my mind when I actually play the game. Everything went smoothly, and I got a couple of lucky as hell rolls where I think that the RNG was favored into me.
The chances like weapon attacks (Ex: Roll a 4 or higher, 6 or higher, 7 or higher, to name a few), have an accuracy of 83.33% - 74.07% of landing, which is a fair deal in early game unless if you focus on increasing your accuracy to increase your chances. However, you wouldn't know how important the Agility stat is: It's your defense. Gaining weight punishes your Agility, so I'm not risking it for more health and suffers enemy attacks (especially ones that multi hits for a total of 35+ damage).
However, it does opens up multiple possibilities of playstyles. If you want to go for a weight gain approach while keeping your stat up, increasing Agility is important than any other stats, while the secondary is Accuracy.
The reason why I haven't struggle with this game, despite its reliance on RNG, is that there's always a chance for the player to fight back. If you land a low roll (Ex: Missing an attack or getting hit), you'll get +1 AP, which allows you to use your specials to increase the odds into your favor, or use any spells via increasing your Mana.
Another reason why I haven't struggle with this game is because I'm less likely to eat food and more likely to heal potion as an alternative. Or use the fairy named Pipsqueak to give me a good roll to heal me or grant me better EXP to get me stronger. When I beat the game on my first try, I only reached Stage 2 of my character's weight and kept her reasonably skinny.
Speaking of Pipsqueak: She's the BEST character, no shot! I like it where I have my personal food dispenser where I don't need it, but it's kind of funny where I was up against a boss and she were like "Okay, but can you feed me before you beat it?". Although, I didn't know that you can still feed her and not waste a turn doing so, otherwise, I'd be mad if any inventory actions would cost your turn.
Plus, you'll have arrows that grants you guarantee access to 100% hit most enemies (Even bypasses enemies that blocks your direct attacks). If you've got to the point of accessing Ice and Fire Shards, it's over for the enemies. It went so smoothly that I didn't need to use the rewind function (Since I feel like it would be cheating), but I only save when I'm not in battles or in an event/shop, to make my experience fair.
My issue with the game is that... Well, it's nothing severe, but I wish you can directly fatten enemies as an alternative to defeating them (Or vice versa, the enemy force feeds you). I really liked it where the enemy fairy overfeeds the imp, causing them to be defeated without me doing anything. Even if I want more adventurers getting fatter like some of the NPC's, watching them grow bigger and bigger from you feeding them.
Another issue, even though it's small, is that getting a game over doesn't let you heal up from the normal enemies overfeeding you and continue on (Increasing the chance of reaching higher stage without the use of cheats), with the cost of the player suffering negative status effect like dizzy, losing half of the player's gold, and some of their gear are broken/lost. But after reaching that alternative ending, I don't think there's a need for that change.
Overall: If you know how the game works, and know how to use your stats distribution wisely, then you can get through this game easily. Even if the game relies on having a 20-die roll, there are several chances (And tools) the game will make that'll turn the tide into your favor, while missing the roll rewards you in some way instead of making you suffer the consequences. It's such a blast playing this game, and I wish there's more enemy encounters and more fairy companion.
