I don't consider any game to be perfect, and that's not what I mean when I give anything a 5 star rating. When I say I'd rate this game 5/5 stars, I mean that it's interesting, it's engaging, and that I'd strongly recommend it.
The low complexity and high depth of the combat in the game really makes the experience. Every character has 3 spells that can change the terrain around them and they each function in mechanically different ways rather than just being Element A, Element B, and Element C. Engaging with enemies is an intersection of multiple rock/paper/scissors style systems that makes everything so much more interesting than simple bump combat. You'll want to carry multiple weapons and you'll be keenly aware of what you have and what you're wearing at all times.
The game has its flaws in its beta state but nothing that will really stand between the player and their enjoyment of the game. The response from the developer to player feedback has been encouraging and thoughtful, and I only see the quality of the game as a whole increasing from here.
If you want a hard, but fair roguelike that will keep you engaged for hours on end, The Curse of Yendor should be right up your alley.
