This review is for version 2.28, both the first chapter here on Itch.io and the some additional content available via Patreon at the time of review.
There aren't a lot of queer Ren'py games that aren't furry, fewer still with strong naratives and even fewer that are downright FUN to play. Canticle is one those hallowed few, thus far.
The art is atmospheric and fun, the story is an engaging whodunnit with elements of relationship building, optional sexy bits and a delightful sprinkle of genuinely good humor here and there. The mini-games are fun, though I suck at a couple of them, I'm good at others, so it works out. And the world-building is excellent!
Obviously, it is very early days, but I was inspired to join the Patreon by the first chapter and completely drawn in by the second chapter. I have very high hopes for this one.
