openda1965 rated Chasing the Stars

openda1965 rated a Visual Novel 330 days ago
A downloadable Visual Novel for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Lots of endings, lots of choices, which made for fun replays, especially deliberately choosing weird options to find hidden bad endings. Some of the most involved and well-written sex scenes I've ever seen in an 18+ game, so bravo for that. Top-notch in an area where most games I've played chintz out with just a few lines and an illustration, I was quite pleased to actually read the characters interacting. Also, the opportunity for multiple threesomes was refreshing. The writing was decent overall, the storyline itself solid and interesting. Some of the routes made me a little uncomfortable (Pol's, specifically, as someone who also has a chronic illness, I'm not sure how I feel about how it was handled). Biel is babygirl though and I will burn this whole place down for him. And Marc is the definition of a sexy bastard with emphasis on bastard. Tirs was a decent protagonist; okay but just slightly too generic. The character designs were interesting and the steampunk vibe well established.

My biggest issue with this game was that it definitely felt rushed in places. There were multiple artists and absolutely no cohesion between them. The main art was good, but some of the side characters were drawn by someone with markedly less skill, and the contrast was jarring. I do feel the story, while its concept was good, could have benefitted from just a bit more expansion. The premise was heavy, and it wasn't executed to the level it had the potential for.

Overall a solid, fun game I will definitely come back to, with just a little more polish it could've been fully five-star.
