Misericorde Volume Two is an interesting follow-up to the first volume. It adds several new elements to the narrative, such as another point of view character and perspective, and continues to hint at the continuing mystery while deepening the characters of the entire cast. However, as its lead character grows more self indulgent, so does the narrative. As a middle chapter, it sets up many potential pay-offs without really satisfying any conclusions on its own, making it a necessary chapter that struggles to stand on its own. Whereas the first chapter focused on Hedwig's difficulty reconciling the outside world with her former anchoress status, the second chapter focuses on her growing difficulty with her emotions and desire to indulge in sexual activities. It's a much hornier title that while titillating, seems to meander about. If you enjoy the first chapter and would like to see Hedwig engage in her desires, it's a fun chapter. But as far as the mystery is concerned, there is a lot of little hint dropping and spinning wheels without getting anywhere clearly.
