TheBetterStory rated Repurpose

A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

An interesting premise and setting, and it seemed to have more teeth to its plot than some other dating sims I could name, but the writing in this really wasn't my cup of tea.

I love a good queer game, and you know I adore a game that's up for criticizing society from a far left perspective, but this was the kind where it felt like the author was self-congratulatorily emphasizing how very fun and radical and leftist they are without ever actually engaging thoughtfully with the "why" of those politics or anything beyond the surface level. (e.g. It cheerily mentions within the first few minutes that the characters in Hell love torture. Just adore it, as long as people really deserve it. We all know there are Bad People out there who deserve it, right?)

One of the characters is also given a broad, stereotypical accent that's transcribed using e.g. "dat" instead of that, which was unpleasantly distracting.

I did love how colourful and creative the character designs were, and there was a good level of polish, but at the end of the day a visual novel's about the story, so if the writing's grating then that's not something I can get past. I might return to Heaven Will Be Mine for my radical queer dating fix instead.
