Nyerelia rated The Perilous Void

A downloadable game.

REALLY GOOD book of random tables for different levels of scope for a sci-fi campaign. The tables are great on their own, but the book also comes with procedures of how to use them together to come up with sectors, systems, worlds, communities...

I do feel like the "bigger picture" procedures (sector, system and world) are a bit tighter than the rest, but that's probably to be expected since the more you focus on the details the more you need to detail the, well, details. You could probably have another book this same size all about developing a megacity while this one does it in one page (5 if you include the ones with the tables for specific districts). Plus, there are tons of resources out there about sci-fi sites and settlements, less so about a "galactic" map that actually makes astrophysical sense.

As someone who, since I was a child, has loved astronomy and astrophysics I really like the depth yet simplicity on thing like types of stars or atmosphere composition.

Objectively the Sector procedure is incredible, the System one has my heart and the World one (with its linked Lifeform tables) stirs my imagination as few things do. The rest work just fine to paint broad strokes and get a general idea of what is going on, but I would probably turn to a resource like Start Without Numbers to expand on things like the societies and settlements
