A really fun read.

I thought the magic / skills element was really interesting, definitely not something I've seen presented in a book before.

Was gonna give this 4 stars, but that felt mean since it was mostly a difference in my own perception of the story.

Note: I started reading it expecting it to be a story about magic, specifically using magic, and then was quite confused when it wasn't. It's a story about a journey of discovery, the goal being clear understanding of the characters circumstances, rather than learning to use spells.

Fortunately that story is well told and enjoyable, and once I realised I'd just misinterpreted it all made more sense.
