A browser game made in HTML5.

Many great games end up sacrificing quality for the sake of length; they insist on being big instead of being unforgettable from start to finish. Tavern Crawler takes the opposite approach. The whole experience feels like a glorified introduction to what could be one of the best games you’ll ever play… and then it just ends.

When it comes to the characters, there’s nothing particularly groundbreaking about them, but there’s real charm in how well the game embraces familiar tropes. Characters like Ford and Aurora are the kind you’ve seen countless times in other games and media, but here, they’re well-written, have depth, and feel meaningful within the story. They fit so naturally into the narrative that you genuinely care about them. They may not be revolutionary, but they feel authentic. No complaints - just solid, well-crafted characters.

Now, the story? That’s where the game really shines. The comedic tone is spot-on, and the whole experience has this delightful sense of lightness. The idea of focusing on what happens after a grand adventure is refreshing, and the game delivers on that promise beautifully.

I’d love to see this world expanded, to dive deeper into its lore - why is the queen so despised? What’s the dynamic between the different races? What are the nuances of the war Ford fought in, and what makes Aurora’s people unique? So many intriguing questions, so few answers.

It’s a fantastic game that, in every way, feels like an amazing demoI really hope to one day play something that fully explores this wonderfully likeable universe.

Definitely give this one a shot - it’s short, but absolutely worth it.
