I played this game as part of a showcasing of games and so on for stream where I randomly select an RPG Maker game and give it a go while making notes for reviewing. I played this for a bit and there are some things that I feel like work against what you have. I do not consider this to be a truly bad game, but it is certainly a "death by thousand cuts" kind of thing. I apologize if this review feels mean, but I am just being as honest as I can be.
1. AI Voice Acting. I'm not entirely against using it as a placeholder until you get some actual voice actors or individuals to lend their voices, if that is the case disregard this point. That being said, it does detract from a number of portions where it is used. AI Voice or Text to Speech voices are normally very stilted and the definition of monotone. This makes moments where you would want some kind of inflection in the voice to show urgency or joy feel very awkward or lackluster instead.
2. There are also some moments needing audio balance. Where the background music and sound effects are too loud compared to the scenes that have voice acting. For instance the first time I went into the Elder's house the music in there nearly blew out my ears as it was higher than the voices.
3. Story beats need corrections in some parts. The part where you fight the goblin at the start and then the screen flashes and you are suddenly in a bed? Yea, there's no context as to what is going on or why. No indication it was a time skip to later that evening, two evenings from then, or what. Just suddenly in bed then suddenly everything is on fire again, then back to the bed. Transitions and identifications that time has actually passed would benefit this.
4. The tiles you use do not always match up. In the nightmare scene, the house has a different drawer/cabinet in there and when you actually go back to there the drawer/cabinet is not only different it does not properly line up with the wall and looks more like it's partially embedded into it. This is a running theme where there are weird gaps or so on where the characters are not able to actually move up to something and interact with it or at least look like they are close to it. If you are using parallax mapping, or something like that, you may need to check how you did the mapping.
5. Guidance is heavily needing revision. Especially when you are starting out. The quest log looks promising but lacks any real information of value. I somehow picked up a quest log from someone named Greg to help Terra, but I never talked to Greg. I never even got info as to which direction in the forest I was supposed to go. I wandered around and got Sara and a bat, but with no real context as to what was going on or why. The quest log would help greatly if it actually gave info as to what I did and what I needed to do.
6. Leveling and Mobs need to be looked at. In the tutorial it doesn't mention that the one who lands the killing blow gets more EXP/JP than the other, but it really feels like that or Alex just levels and powers up way faster than Elizabeth and Sara. Also, it mentions being able to run from mobs but it doesn't feel like you can actually run from them. I ran from one Goblin, ran pretty far but it was always just a couple of spaces behind me and never turned or stopped unless I was able to run around trees without it catching me.
7. You have some broken condition branches/switches. One example is the guard in front of a bridge that you cannot pass unless you have 3 party members, but if you talk to him with 2 members he says you are good to pass, but if you try to pass he stops you and says you don't have enough. You can also fight the slimes before talking to the fire bat, and go through a majority of the forest before even meeting Sara even though she's apparently supposed to be required.
Final Verdict: It's a good rough. Far from a finished product but enough to properly conceptualize and show what you are wanting to do and achieve. I realize this is still a demo, but if this is a telling of what is to come then you still have a lot of work ahead of you. There is a good amount of potential, but I do not feel like you are properly grasping at it with this current build. I look forward to future builds to see how the project progresses and evolves.
Update to Review: 12/28/24
I saw your recent update claiming major changes to the game. However, I am saddened to see see that sometime after my initial review, you put a price tag on this before actually fixing anything. Now, I'm not certain if you did actually fix anything or just say you did while hiding behind a price tag.
Update to Review: 12/29/24
As stated in the corresponding email, this has been adjusted back to a 2/5 for now.
