A very nice presentation if a bit finicky. The story and characters are okay.  Dropping the reader into a scene is good tactic in many cases, but I don't know if the segmented structure was the best way to go with such a small word count. It became a little disorienting, not having that moment to ease into the next scene, the first time I read this.
