LilyVioletRose rated Prescription:LOVE

LilyVioletRose rated a Yandere Visual Novel 1 year ago
A downloadable Yandere Visual Novel for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

This review will contain spoilers, please play the visual novel before reading!

A YouTuber (Hello Yinny) released a playthrough of this visual novel, but after watching two minutes I was so entranced by the Dr. that I downloaded to play for myself.

What I enjoyed most about this VN is how the Livingslime takes advantage of the reader's suspicion. The VN intentionally makes the Dr. act suspicious, so that while the protagonist may not suspect him, you, the player, definitely do. The bad ending is triggered when you, the player, let paranoia win. Not because you're expected to trust the Dr., but because you're expected to not let that distrust cloud your judgement.

The storyline, as well as the music that accompanies it, carefully balances being light-hearted with being creepy, to make those creepy moments more poignant. It makes sure to give an logical, reassuring explanation most of the times that something 'off' happens. Not necessarily reassuring enough to the player, but reassuring enough to the protagonist. It makes it so that when they still trust the doctor,  it's dramatic irony that doesn't make them seem naive.
