Argent_Knight rated Aftersoul

A downloadable game for Windows.

This game was a surprise to me in terms of how good it is. Aftersoul features an interesting plot (thus far), a solid progression system and engaging combat mechanics.

Without spoiling any details, the plot isn't something we haven't seen before in RPGs, but the execution is good. There is lore if you want to read it and a strong sense of mystery. I enjoy these kinds of mosaic stories, where one has to put together the pieces, bit by bit, to get the full picture.

As for the system, there is a little grinding involved, but nothing onerous. I'd say it's possible to level up once every 5-7 fights, with the foes getting more challenging as you level. If you fail, there is a penalty, but again, it isn't particularly heavy and that mechanic teaches you not to fight things you're not ready to handle yet.

All in all, a very pleasant, fun way to spend an evening in it's current state, and I can't wait to see more.
