The gameplay is simple turn based strategy, but with a lot of added depth to it. The environmental modifaction, the position characters are facing, the switchable class system, the half-steps it takes for things like fire to spread, these are incredibly fun to play around with! The setting, at least, in this installment, is f***ing TERRIFYING. The entire world is coated in a thick mist with terrain sweeping behind it, the land starts off empty, colorless, and filled with the most ominous and foreboding sounds I've heard since Silent Hill 2. The music is adaptive to every situation in a battle. Losing one of your own will make the music much more tense, getting the first blood on the enemy will make it more triumphant. If someone dies in the first few turns, the music becomes loud and chaotic, and if only one of either side remains, it all becomes feverish. Every battle feels like the world is ending, and I really can't get used to it. It's so well done. I've been hearing about Tenderfoot Tactics as an idea since Viridi, and if this what we're looking towards in the future, I can't wait to see what they have in store.
