After playing this game for hours and finding the experimental web version on Discord (don't know why I have to join Discord to get the up to date version), I've decided I basically hate this game. It's not fun. Fun would be a game where it's possible to feel like I'm doing well instead of constantly feeling desperate in a game where it seems I have to be so careful about what I choose for upgrades that it's not fun at all. This would be before actually BUYING a network of upgrades available between games, the options of which CROWD OUT the upgrades that are available by default. I'm not sure the dev understands that he's getting players to BUY with "embers" upgrades and options that REPLACE upgrades chosen during the game. These upgrades take up far more future choices and don't seem nearly as effective or predictable as the ones available by default, like power, attack speed, and bullet speed, the last of which, by the way, in the older browser version of this game actually OUTPACES and SKIPS impacts, thereby making you LESS EFFECTIVE in the game.
I don't know what the dev's experience is, but I don't think he (or she) knows how to make a fun game. I think he's either confused desperate with challenging or he hasn't put enough effort into fine-tuning the game so players don't die so easily and for unknown reasons.
While modern Mario games may be cartoonish, easy, and dumbed-down, at least you get to play them instead of dying then starting all over from the beginning, not just of a level, but as if your only progress in the game is those infernal, purhaseable upgrades that make the game WORSE more than they make it BETTER.
It's as if the dev doesn't really want to put in the effort to curate the experience so is complicating the entire thing then passing responsibility off to the player so they can blame themselves when everything gets WORSE.
I might play this game again, probably because I live in such a crappy world that Donald Trump has been allowed to run for President of the United States again. That's how bad things are.
Just awful. This game has such potential but it's wasted because the dev can't be bothered to take any responsibility for its quality aside from aesthetically basic add-ons and an overused network of upgrades that overwhelms the initial enjoyment before you realize how buggy and chaotic this simple-looking game is.
