This game does exactly what it promises: Delivering old-school dungeon crawling with modern sensibilities. Keeping track of marching order, torches, inventory, etc. are important in ways that feels fun rather than tedious. The combat has an extra layer of tactics and skill with the use of cards. You can play cards face down, bluff about what you have, and use actions out of turn if you have the right suit, leading to dynamic fights where players are constantly engaged and making decisions.
Characters in this game FEEL like dungeon crawlers, and not just generic fantasy adventurers. The game encourages roleplaying organically through it's different phases, unlike other modern story-focused games I've read recently that rely on splitting the game into various phases.
All in all, a stellar game that does exactly what it wants to do, and is incredibly playable.
