I really wish I had a copy of Nintendo Power that covers this game and tells me what secrets I am missing. I am absolutely sure there must be a hidden block early on in the first stage, but I figured I'd reply it and come back to find out later. 
The controls are amazingly intuitive (as someone who got Super Mario Bros 3 for his birthday shortly after it came out), the art is both familiar and unique, and the story is compelling.
