(Review while still playing the game)
I stumbled upon this game, after looking a bit into fangames, and notably Psycho Waluigi.
So, I downloaded it, thinking that it would be a cool way to spend an hour or so.
8 hours later, I'm still not done with it, and completely under the charm.
This, folks, is a great game.
It controls well, the visuals are beautiful (special note for the pencil temple level), the music is amazing.
And more importantly to me, I love the plot.
The characters are lovable, with a well defined personality.
The story unfolds well, and while it looks like a standard plot, it's nicely delivered, with some appreciable curve balls.
At current time, I'm fully invested in those characters and the worldbuilding around them, that goes from nonsensical/functional and ends up real tight.
My only critique of the game would be in terms of game and level design.
There are a lot of ideas, but it sometimes feel like it doesn't go far enough with it.
Most notably, the psychic powers are pretty underused, and I would have loved to see them used more, especially for things other than blasting foes in a more efficient way. Things like the exploding rockets, the jumping one, or the cloud one are begging to have more dedicated sections, and it would have been even better to see more power variety instead of variations on standard projectiles.
Yet, this is nitpicking.
And overall, when I consider this game for what it is, an indie platformer, I can't recommend it enough.
Even more with the fact that it's clearly a passion project, the time that it took for it to release, and all.
This game is clearly full of love, and my favorite discovery of the year so far.
And it's free, so there is no reason not to try it.
So, go play it, and I can't wait to see what the dev will cook in the future!
