m-gemmell rated Seas of Sand

m-gemmell rated a setting guide 1 year ago
A downloadable setting guide.

A brilliant setting. I really love the idea of the seas of sand being liquid at day and solid at night. Adding in 7 different sands is cool too.

All the content is great including how to create your own seas, playing as merchants, adventurers, or pirates. I really like the information on the various fauna, flora, and phenomena that can be encountered. I read through some of the revelations table and some cool crazy stuff can happen.

Of course the content and ideas of an RPG setting are important but it also needs to be readable. This book is top notch in that department. The structure and layout is great. I enjoy the accompanying art and graphic design and how it breaks up the text (I glaze over with walls of text). The text is very easy to read and so I found it an enjoyable read.

Two improvements I may suggest, and they are possibly just personal preferences so ignore if you don't think it appropriate. A bit at the start with an overview stating very briefly what is in each major section (Intro, Mapping, Ports, Sand etc). Maybe even having that be part of the table of contents at the start of the book. The other possible improvement would be the use of another font than Arial (i think it was arial) as the main font. Possibly this is just because I use Lexend for everything now which is dyslexic friendly.

Overall I really enjoyed it and will either run it or steal many ideas for something I will run :)
