Why are games where you play the bad guy so, so sweet?

I love the 'overlord' or 'dark lord' approach to dark fantasy worlds like this, where you reave, plunder and conquest... or take a more insidious approach and manipulate your enemies and turn them against one another. There's a fun time to be had here. I would recommend checking it out.
