I played all three routes and they were all good. I am just rating this a 4 instead of a 5 because the artwork is not professional quality--although the artwork is fine. (I do like the design of all of the characters, just things like proportions--especially hands, arms--were off throughout the game)
I like how all of the stories are truly unique. Essentially, one worry I had before playing is that the stories might just be carbon copies of obviously the most famous period romantic pieces (any of Jane Austin, etc.) but surprisingly I am happy to report they are not! I've seen several movie adaptions of all of Jane Austin's works and even Jane Eyre (which I have read and also seen several movie adaptions and I think was by Emily Bronte) and these stories are not copying any of these existing works.
And despite not copying the existing works, the author is convincing enough in her writing that it really does feel like a quality period piece.
I will say I was able to easily guess all of the plots and twists to each story--except for Mr. Stanton's, I did guess correctly but I did waver a few times and felt real uncertainty in his route. But, the fact that I had even one route where I was uncertain is a huge achievement considering I think romantic period pieces do have a certain pattern to them.
The characters are all endearing and charming in their own right. The real MVPs being seriously her best friend Arabella and Colonel Foxley (her best friend's beau). Every time they're on screen, seriously you cannot help but smile. The best friends you wish you had in your life. The villain characters are appropriately distasteful. The love interests are all likable.
After playing all three routes back to back I'm uncertain which LI I like best. If I were to be honest probably none of the LIs were 100% my type of guy exactly. Probably I'm going to say that the main reason I ultimately didn't feel like any of the guys were my type is due to the endings for every LI. Essentially in every LI's ending the guy ultimately becomes a bit helpless and mostly doesn't have a hand in the resolution of the story. (The only exception being Captain Blake's ending, which actually did feel the most satisfying to me. I liked how both the female protagonist and the male lead had a key role in the climatic showdown.)
But, as far as each route as a whole I would rate Mr. Stanton's and Mr. Amesbury's as higher since to me they were more enjoyable during most of their story. (And this should be obvious since I have admitted to feeling more satisfied when the female protagonist AND the male lead have an active role during the story. In Captain Blake's route it was a lot of the female protagonist chasing down the male lead and doing most of the leg work. ^^')
So for me, probably Mr. Stanton is my favorite male lead, but Mr. Amesbury is definitely close. I just wish their endings had them being I guess more heroic, if that had been the case I'm pretty sure I would have been happy from beginning to end with their stories. I do like their stories a lot though.
