Personally, I really like how the game is right now. I honestly appreciate the fact that things in the environment aren't highlighted for interaction or how there not spelled out for the player.
Like how the player gets the wood and the energy seed for the respective beavers. This type of game design keeps the game world feeling natural and makes the player to use basic logic to move forward. You can't hold some thing and go up the waterfall so logic dictates the wood is near the top. Similarly, Dirthead can't jump high enough to reach the seed and doesn't receive any new abilities. So, logically, the answer lies within the campsite itself and the game just showed you what you can do earlier with the wood.
However, I kind of wish that Dirthead could sing continuously via toggle options. Having to press the middle mouse button multiple times is a little awkward. Also, Dirthead's falling scream doesn't stop when he stops falling, it's a little weird.
