BirdObserver rated Pulpergeist (Playdate)

A downloadable game.

One of the best examples of what can be done with Pulp so far. Great writing, great visuals, even the soundtrack adds some moody atmosphere. The gameplay is fun with just enough challenge, unlike so many other Pulp adventures I've played which practically play themselves (I don't blame them, game design is hard). The gradually unfolding painting also gives you a constant feeling of reward and forward momentum that ensures it's really hard to put down. Top tier stuff.

The only issues I've had (apart from some bugs which were fully ironed out in patches) are common to Pulp games - loud sounds and music (such as in the cabin) are distorted if the Playdate volume is even slightly high (which I've seen devs get around by lowering the default value or decreasing the sample volume on hardware set to max volume), and movement can feel a little slow if you're not constantly mashing the directions - but these are mild issues mostly related to the engine and OS that have nothing to do with the overall game design, which is brilliant.
